The mission of the Rescue Committee is to facilitate the rescue, fostering and careful placement of lost, abandoned, abused or unwanted purebred Irish Terriers in homes appropriate
for the individual dog.

Rescue dogs need homes which provide a safe environment for proper adjustment.
Children, cats, and yards that are not fenced may not always provide the best situation
for a successful rescue. All of the dogs needing new homes require love and attention.
Some are mature dogs,
often 7 years and up. Irish Terriers are a very healthy
breed and remain full of vim and vigor well past the age of 12.
Would you like to Foster an Irish Terrier?
If you are not quite ready for a dog yet or if you would like a chance to
"test drive" an Irish Terrier, why not consider providing a foster home for a needy
dog? The ITCA requirements for fostering are: Previous dog experience
(preferably with a terrier); a fenced yard: a willingness to work with the dog;
and the ability to supply feedback to the Rescue Chairperson about the dog's
behavior. Sometime the foster person will need to arrange for veterinary
care. Rescue will be responsible for all veterinary costs. It is
best if foster homes do not have a cat. If the foster family has another
dog, they should be able to separate the rescue dog from the other
dog if necessary. If you are interested in fostering Irish Terriers,

How to Adopt an Irish Terrier
Here is how Irish Terrier Rescue works. We have one chairperson who in
turn has regional helpers. All rescue requests should go through the
Chairperson. Suzanne Brennan. Below is a link to our on-line form
which is emailed to Suzanne and puts you on a wait list. When we have
a dog who might be a good match for you,
we email you about the dog. If you are still interested, the adoption
process begins.
However, three Irish Terriers require homes now so read on and contact the
Chairperson, Suzanne Brennan by email directly (see below) if you are interested in any of these
particular Irish Terriers.

Shamrock Rocky Thumper
This is a heartbreaking
rescue story. Rocky, his sister Thumper, and their father, Shamrock, have all
been much loved pets for their entire lives. Shamrock is almost 15, and "the
kids," are 12. All are in good health but their owners are not so lucky. Poor
health is forcing them to leave their country home and move to an apartment in
town. All three dogs are housebroken, used to living inside and out, and
probably would do best in a fairly quiet environment. None of them are used to
cities or traffic. We do not require that all 3 be adopted together. The dogs
are currently living in central Arkansas but can be moved.

If you do not have a home for any of these Irish
Terriers but are still interested in maybe adopting an Irish Terrier in the
future then read on. You will need to complete an application. Our application is not available
on-line but it can be emailed or mailed. A potential adopter must also complete
an interview process.
Our first choice is always a personal interview but because we are a small
club with limited membership, we sometimes do phone interviews. Finally, when someone
does adopt a dog, we suggest that they make a donation to our rescue fund.
